Next country checklist

Over time we developed a mental checklist of things we always do before going to another country. For whatever it is worth, this is our list:

• Book accommodation
• Book travel into the country
• Check a Timatic-based source whether you can enter the next country (On Wikipedia "Visa policy of [country name]" is also a great source)
• Download an offline map of the next city and mark your accommodation on the map (in case you can't get internet)
• Research a (backup) plan to get from your arrival bus/plane/train terminal to your accommodation
• Research where you can buy SIM cards
• Research the ATM fees and/or whether all ATMs should work for you
• Check that you know where you passports are
• Buy some snacks for the journey
• Check the timezone. One hour jumps when traveling from country to country can sometimes catch you off guard.
• Take photos of the apartment you're leaving (turn on any appliance that can be visibly on) just in case there are problems
