10 tips for traveling the world full time whilst working

These are the 10 things I would tell myself if I could go back in time a couple of years. Alternate between calmer periods and active travel periods If you enjoy traveling, it is easy to plan your digital nomad trip in the same way as you would plan a backpacking vacation: by moving from place to place frequently. This can be a good option if the interesting things in a country are spread out or if visa rules limit your time in a particular country. However, in our experience, it is not sustainable in the long run to combine a full-time job with actually enjoying a country and changing hotels every week or two. For this reason, we recommend alternating between periods of staying in one city and periods of active travel. We believe that six weeks is the ideal amount of time to spend in a

How much does it cost to travel as a Digital Nomad?

There is countless articles out there which answer this question in incredible detail, so let's just add our experiences. Monthly costs The greatest money saving measure is traveling with someone else. Traveling as a couple is significantly cheaper than traveling solo, so when you check other articles make sure to check that their 'party composition' matches yours. Tips for picking your next country

Once you're traveling picking and planning the next country to visit is sometimes trivially easy (when you're right next to a country on your bucketlist), but sometimes it ends up being a decently involved process. Step 1: Determine viable countries Begin by excluding nearby countries that are inaccessible due to visa requirements, timezone issues, internet quality issues or safety concerns. This article details useful resources that can help with figuring this out. For each remaining country, check travel connections on Rome2Rio. In general if Rome2Rio claims a connection exists it will be accurate, but be cautious about relying on prices and timetables from Rome2Rio and instead verify them directly at the source. If you plan to fly to another country, check prices on Google Flights f

To which countries can you travel?

There is a bunch of things to consider when evaluating to which countries you can and can not travel. Here I try to summarize the main ones. Timezones If you have to work for example during EU or US office hours that automatically rules out part of the world. Long story short: If you work EU office hours and you want to sleep during the night the furthest east you can go is Japan/Eastern Indonesia/Western Australia outside of Winter Time. The furthest west you can go is during Winter Time most of South America (Outside of Winter Time eastern South America). Tip: On Google you can type "[time] in [countryA] in [countryB]" meaning "when it is time in countryA, what time is it in countryB?" Digital Nomad Packing List without hidden ads

Before we started traveling I checked a bunch of sites for advice on what to pack as a digital nomad... and there was one consistent problem: Their selection of products was heavily influenced by the Amazon Affiliate program. Rather than give you generally useful advice, they would do anything to get you to buy products through their amazon links. The result of this is that they recommended countless trinkets and other 'bullshit' items. Backpack Starting with the obvious: Take a backpack, don't travel with a suitcase. Suitcases are great when you're in rich countries, but are terrible when you have to carry them anytime there isn't a well maintained path. In contrast backpacks are consistently and predictably uncomfortable, so you can always know what to expect. As for the size of the b

Sri Lanka Digital Nomad Review

We visited Sri Lanka during the start of the serious economic crisis in 2021-2022. If you're reading this in 2023, then this article by the BBC sums up the current situation. From a digital nomad's perspective, the main thing to look into before visiting is the current power cut situation. Sri Lanka often experiences scheduled power cuts during the day. By the time we left Sri Lanka, there were power cuts for 6+ hours per day. However, at least the mobile network didn't go down during the power cuts, so we were still able to work as long as we were careful enough to always have fully charged batteries. In terms of accommodation, Sri Lanka does not offer many short-term apartments. This is mainly because the country has a strong 'family home' culture, and there is limited demand for apartm

Indonesia Digital Nomad Review

Indonesia is a land of extremes. On the one hand, you have places with incredibly developed tourist sites, while at the same time, most of the rest of Indonesia is completely 'authentic.' This makes it difficult to review Indonesia as a whole. So, let's start by saying that we would 100% recommend staying in Indonesia. From the volcanoes in Java to snorkeling with Manta Rays near Bali, there are just so many unique things in Indonesia that make it totally worth it overall. Visas One general 'problem' to be aware of is that most westerners have 30-day visa-free access, and they can extend it to 60 days. However, even if you do everything correctly (in our case: ensure outward travel documentation within the first 30 days, despite planning to stay 60, and pay for a Visa On Arrival rather t

Thailand Digital Nomad Review

Out of all of South East Asia Thailand gets by far the largest number of tourists, which on the one hand means that infrastructure is super developed, but it also means you can get a very 'sterile' experience filled with western comforts mixed with a sprinkling of scams. Especially when you spend time anywhere near the sea, western culture seems to have 'replaced' the local culture to a large extend. From a Digital Nomad perspective the upsides of all these tourists coming to Thailand is not only the great amenities, but also the supply of relatively affordable apartment complexes - with luxeries like rooftop pools and gyms - catering to tourists who want to stay for longer stays. The downside however is that some prices have adjusted to the influx of foreign wealth, so you for example end

Georgia Digital Nomad Review

Georgia is easily one of my favorite countries to recommend to both starting and experienced travelers. The combination of natural beauty and cultural heritage is hard to beat anywhere else. As the above grading shows, there isn't really anything to criticize from a digital nomad perspective. So, from a practical point of view, I would recommend basing oneself in Tbilisi and taking weekend trips from there around the country. However, we did notice that the (mobile) internet was good enough even in some more remote places, making it possible to spend a couple of weeks working, for example, in the mountains. The two main things to see that I would recommend are Vardzia - a cave monastery - in the south and Svaneti - famed for its towers everywhere - in the north. Getting around isn't trivi
